The Expediton Show's Self-titled CD Released Today On Mountain Fever Records

February 28, 2011 (Willis, VA)—Mountain Fever Records is proud to announce they will release the self-titled CD from The Expedition Show today! The first single, "Backroads And Little Towns" has already been receiving strong airplay on bluegrass radio since its debut earlier this month.

Consisting of Blake Williams on banjo and vocals; Wayne Southards on guitar and vocals; Kimberly Williams on bass and vocals; and Alex Hibbitts on mandolin and vocals, The Expedition Show signed with Mountain Fever Records in late 2010. The new project contains 12 tracks of some of the best in traditional, contemporary, original, and gospel music and also includes a bonus comedy track featuring the country wit and humor of Blake Williams. As with their previous recordings, The Expedition Show invited their dear friend and “honorary fifth member” Tim Crouch to play fiddle on the project. Although The Expedition Show is best known for their three-part harmony, the diversity of material this project offers allowed the band to try new vocal arrangements and includes two duets; a grassy version of a Louvin Brothers song, "I Can't Keep You In Love With Me" sung by Kimberly Williams and Wayne Southards and a Southards-penned original duet sung by Southards and Alex Hibbitts titled "My Love For You Is True". In addition, the band revived a familiar church hymn, "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder", featuring Hibbitts on bass vocals and allowing Blake Williams to reprise his role as baritone singer, something he has not done since the 1980’s. All in all, Southards and Kimberly Williams evenly split the lead vocal duties, offering five songs each including Southards on an old Stephen Foster tune, “When The Springtime Comes Again (Little Annie)” and another original written by Blake Williams, “True Blue Never Ending Heartache”. Kimberly Williams reached back to 1977 for a beautiful country ballad titled “It Started All Over Again”, originally recorded by Vern Gosdin and Janie Fricke, and she also sings two more originals penned by her husband; “Storms of Life” and “Smoke And Mirrors”. Also included are two newly-composed instrumentals, "Showdown" and "Sparta Flash", the latter inspired by WSM DJ and Grand Ole Opry announcer Eddie Stubbs who encouraged Blake Williams to write the tune and title it for the name given to Williams by Bill Monroe years ago. The first single from the project, "Backroads And Little Towns", penned by Wayne Southards and Blake Williams has already been receiving strong airplay since its release earlier this month.

The Expedition Show has been a fan and festival favorite since their beginning in early 2002 as Williams & Clark Expedition. In the fall of 2009, the band underwent a personnel change, added Hibbitts, and changed their name to The Expedition Show. During the band's 9 year tenure, the entertaining group has been nominated twice by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) for Emerging Artist of the Year (2005 and 2007), Wayne Southards has won the International Acoustic Music Association's Male Vocalist of the Year award (2009) and Blake Williams has been nominated three times for Entertainer of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (2007-2009). The band has performed all over the world including a tour with country music artist Darryl Worley to Japan as well as an extensive headlining tour in Canada. In addition, the band was invited to perform for the historic Ryman Auditorium's "Bluegrass Nights at The Ryman" concert series in 2007 where they played to a nearly sold out crowd.

Grasstowne is Kickin' Up Dust in California

New album set for March 22, 2011 release!

Arcadia, CA - - Rural Rhythm recording artist and national touring band, GRASSTOWNE, is headed to California this weekend and will be performing songs from their highly anticipated new album, KICKIN’ UP DUST. The new album is set for release March 22, 2011 and includes the multi-award winning talents of Alan Bibey, Steve Gulley, Justin Jenkins, Adam Haynes and Kameron Keller.

GRASSTOWNE is celebrating the success of their first single, “Kickin’ Up Dust” from the album. The song currently appears at #3 on SiriusXM Bluegrass Junction’s Most Played Tracks that was also named one of the BEST SONGS OF THE YEAR by Terry Herd’s INTO THE BLUE program on the Bluegrass Radio Network.

Fans have certainly been noticing the 1941 Chevrolet Coupe on the album cover for KICKIN’ UP DUST. Alan Bibey gave a little info on the car saying, “Johnny Cates, from Tobaccoville, NC and a friend of my wife’s family, has owned the car since he was in high school. He told me I was the third person to ever sit behind the wheel and I was the only non-family member to ever do so. It is an awesome car!

FOCUSED... new CD release from Mountain Therapy

Mountain Therapy, a band that has seen many years of playing bluegrass in the northeastern U.S. has released their latest CD titled, FOCUSED.

FOCUSED hits the music stands with 14 songs done in Mountain Therapy's trademark bluegrass style and contains Lonnie Wellman's haunting original, "Drink Up."

The band says... "This CD is dedicated to all those who have supported us through the years as we remain FOCUSED on the future." "We are really proud and excited how this project turned out."

The band, formed over 25 years ago, has come to be known as a high-energy ensemble, playing everything from traditional and contemporary tunes, to fast-paced instrumentals and high-lonesome vocals.

These talented musicians have been influenced by everyone from the old-school fathers of this genre, to the youngsters who are out in the parking lot flat tearing it up with the yet-to-be-heard sounds of tomorrow's bluegrass.

With strong original songwriting and their creative presentation, Mountain Therapy is truly one of those rare, 'must see' acts

Mountain Therapy consists of:

Lonnie Wellman - Guitar / Vocals

Mike Ash - Acoustic Bass / Vocals

Ron Dick - Mandolin / Vocals

Tim Custer - Banjo / Vocals

"Doc" Williams - RIP

February 1, 2011 - By JENNIFER COMPSTON-STROUGH City Editor

WHEELING - Country music lost a legendary performer Monday, when 96-year-old Doc Williams died at his home in Wheeling.

Born Andrew John Smik in Cleveland, Ohio, "Doc" came to Wheeling in 1937 to perform with Jamboree USA and to participate in WWVA broadcasts. His daughter, Barbara "Peeper" Smik, said her father and mother, the late "Chickie Williams," always felt at home in the Friendly City.

"He always considered Wheeling and West Virginia his home," she said. "He had opportunities to go elsewhere, but Mom was born in West Virginia, and they always wanted to come back here to their roots. We (the couple's three children) grew up in a settled way."

And Wheeling embraced Doc and his family. Since he and Chickie performed frequently with their three daughters - Barbara, Madeline and Karen - on stage, the entire family was well-known among country music fans throughout the northeastern United States and Canada and by local residents.
Today their grandson, Andy McKenzie, is mayor of Wheeling.
"I was very close to my grandfather, and he was a great man," McKenzie said, noting Doc would have turned 97 in June. Full story here.
