The 75th anniversary of the Old Fiddler's Convention in Galax includes a new addition

A permanent stage in Felts Park will serve the fiddler's convention and other community events

GALAX, Va. —

The 75th Old Fiddler's Convention begins Monday in Galax, and this year for the first time the musicians will perform on a permanent stage.

Friday morning, members of the Galax Moose Lodge were completing final preparations. The new stage was financed with federal, local and Moose Lodge funds. It replaces the bright yellow tent that sheltered the temporary stage for decades.

Publicity Chairman Tom Jones says the Moose Lodge is expecting a good crowd for the 75th anniversary. "Attendance has been up in the last few years even though the economy's been down," Jones told News 7. "Our registration's up this year, so we're looking for a big event."  More
