'COME HOME TO BLUEGRASS' Songwriting Contest Announced

Winner's Song to Debut at Bill Monroe's 100 Birthday Celebration


ROSINE, Ky. – The Ohio County Tourism Commission in Rosine, Ky., announces the


first ever “Come Home to Bluegrass” Songwriting Contest in honor of the upcoming celebration of Bill

Monroe's 100 Birthday in 2011.

Monroe, who was born in Rosine, is widely recognized as the "Father of Bluegrass Music." Plans are in

the works to celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday on September, 13, 2011. Included in

those plans is a musical celebration at Monroe's homeplace. The winner of the Come Home to Bluegrass

Songwriting Contest will debut his/her song at the celebration in 2011.

The deadline for entries is March 13, 2011. They will be judged on content of lyrics, music and

originality. Instrumentally and lyrically, the song must represent the traditional Bluegrass music style of

Bill Monroe. Winners will be notified by July 1, 2011.

Songwriters should note important rules of the contest, including:

• Songs should be NO LESS than two (2) minutes and thirty (30) seconds; and NO MORE than three (3)

minutes long. Compositions may be copyrighted or have writer’s clearance, but may not have been
