HILTONS, Va. – Musical acts took the Carter Fold stage for 10 minutes each Sunday, Appalachian cloggers took to the dance floor, and the rafters were packed for a benefit concert to help Rita Forrester, whose home burned to the ground in a Dec; 6 fire that killed her husband.
“With the outpouring of not only financial support today, and all of these folks at the Carter Fold showing their love and support, it’s going to go a long way to help her heal,” said concert organizer Tim White.
Forrester’s home was built in 1997 within earshot of the historic “Carter Family Fold,” where family, friends and music fans gathered Sunday to raise money, and to raise Rita Forrester’s spirits.
Her husband, 61-year-old Bob Forrester, was the only person not to make it out of the burning home. More...
