Bluegrass in the Hills, August 6, 7, and 8

BLUEGRASS IN THE HILLS continues its eighth season with another super Bluegrass weekend August 6, 7 and 8, 2009.
The festivities begin on Thursday at 5 p.m. with free bean soup and cornbread. Four bands will play Thursday, starting with Flat Iron Bluegrass. Megan Murphy will play next along with her band Yankee Bluegrass which includes Buddy Griffith, a bluegrass music teacher from Glennville College in West Virginia. Wills Creek, a well-liked regional band will play next. Muddy Krick Mountain Boys finishes up the Thursday night show. Each band will play two sets with performances ending around 10:15 pm. After which an open stage tops off the evening with hours of jam sessions. Food will be available all night - featuring seven different pies!
Other greats perform through the weekend. On Friday, there are seven bands scheduled: Joe Williams and Deep Water, Southbound Express, Wills Creek, and National Bluegrass Banjo (Professional) Champion Picker - Steven Moore will play with the Almost Famous band. The evening line-up also features three nationally known acts, The Midnight Ramblers (a showcase Nashville band ), Junior Sisk and Ramblers Choice (just featured on the cover of Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine), Bo Issacs and Summertown Road.
Saturday’s shows include Summertown Road and Almost Famous. as well as Allegheny Drifters (a regional band from Pittsburgh). Other bands performing are: Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road (nominated both as individual player and band of the year respectively). Lorraine also was one of the featured singers on Bluegrass Album of the Year 2008, entitled Women of Bluegrass! Goldwing Express will perform. This act is in their 8th smash season in Branson, doing comedy and music of their Indian Heritage. Nothing Fancy is also in the line-up. This is the second season they have won Entertainer of the year For SPBGMA in Nashville. Last, but certainly not least, the Moron Brothers will take the stage. They have been a top performing act for The Grand Old Opry. But they first performed in OHIO at Mickey's Mountain!!!!
Owner, Calvin Mickey, says they are very fortunate to have all this outstanding talent. He has been recognized by SPBGMA and nominated for Promoter of the Year from among more than 800 promoters in the business finishing in the top six for three years.
Weekend passes are on sale and are a great bargain at $50.00 per ticket which includes camping at the gate. Children 13 and under are free, 14 - 18 are half-price.
Approximately 75 electric hook-ups for campers are available for $12.50 per day in addition to many free rustic campsites in the shade. A covered amphitheater and stage area means the show can go on rain or shine with lots of shade. Also, there is a complete kitchen with an aray of great food available including pie, ice cream and home-made brownies. Pancakes and sausage are also available for breakfast.
