Friday night Darlene and I enjoyed a great night of Bluegrass at the Pennyroyal Opera House in Fairview Ohio. They bill themselves as "The place where Bluegrass happens", and Friday was a great example. Friday it was The Larry Stephenson Band, with opening act Lonesome Meadow.
Larry has assembled a great band, of course Larry is on mandolin and his signature high lead vocals, the great Kenny Ingram on banjo and harmony, veteran Mike Feagan on fiddle and bass vocals, they are joined by two outstanding young players, Kevin Richardson on guitar and harmony, with Kyle Perkins on bass.
A note to our Pittsburgh are readers, The Pennyroyal is not that far away, slightly over two hours for me, from Latrobe, much less from Pittsburgh. NOTE if you like to use your GPS plug in Fair St, Quaker City, OH., also they don't take reservations, so plan to arrive early, around fiveish, and enjoy their great sandwiches and deserts. The show starts at 7:oo pm and is over shortly after ten. It is an easy round trip and most will be home before midnight.
FYI, The Pennyroyal is a nonprofit operated by an all volunteer staff.
I will be posting more pictures in a separate post.
